DESCRIPTION:Join us in Downtown Miami at MDC Wolfson Campus!\n\n\n\nDoors open at 11:00 am for complimentary coffee for the first 50 participants\n\n\n\nJoin the Museum of Miami for an afternoon of connection and dialogue at la ventanita! Facilitated by community leaders\, educators\, and artists\, conversations will be guided by prompts surrounding themes of history\, culture\, and identity—all inspired by our communities. Listen and share stories while engaging together over coffee. \n\n\n\nSpark your civic interest and explore the ways in which you can inspire meaningful change in your community! Connect with Maydee Martinez\, the youngest founding member of Engage Miami and former Teen Miami Intern Curator at Museum of Miami. Follow Maydee’s journey to becoming a leader in civic engagement\, youth development\, and community organizing. Learn how active participation by Miamians can lead to lasting change. \n\n\n\nThis program will encourage exchange around navigating civic issues in our communities as we look towards Miami’s future. \n\n\n\nEnjoy a free coffee on us! Complimentary coffee available to the first 50 participants at check-in. Coffee provided by Cienfuegos Coffee. \n\n\n\nThis program will take place at Miami Dade College — Wolfson Campus\, Building 2\, Room 2106\, located at 223 NE 4th St\, Miami\, FL 33132. Please check-in with Museum staff in front of Building 2\, Room 2106 on Kyriakides Plaza.\n\n\n\nSeating is first-come\, first-served. Please plan to arrive early to ensure preferred seating. \n\n\n\nFree with Registration\n\n\n\n\n\n\n    Register \n    \n\n\n\nTicket includes complimentary pass to Museum of Miami. \n\n\n\nPresented in partnership with Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus; Institute for Civic Engagement and Democracy (iCED); Phi Theta Kappa Honors (PTK) Society; and Made By Us. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCafecito Conversations is presented in collaboration with Cienfuegos Coffee. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFeatured Speaker:\n\n\n\n\nMaydee Martinez\n\n\n\nMaydee Martinez was proudly born and raised in Miami\, Florida\, and has dedicated her career to community engagement and civic education. She began her professional career at the Museum of Miami as a Teen Miami Intern Curator and went on to graduate from Miami Dade College’s Honors College and Georgetown University\, where she earned a B.A. in Sociology and Government and researched civic participation among Hispanic/Latino youth in South Florida. \n\n\n\nIn 2014\, Maydee founded Democracy YOUnited\, a voter education and engagement initiative\, and later helped launch Engage Miami\, a nonprofit focused on changing the culture around local politics. She has worked on political campaigns throughout South Florida\, having last served as Political Director for now-Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava in 2020. She also curated Vote the Future\, a youth civic education program that employed more than 120 high school students. Today\, Maydee serves as Director of Miami-Dade Initiatives at Hispanic Unity of Florida\, where she works to expand access to programs that help individuals and families become self-sufficient\, civically engaged\, and achieve the American Dream \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAdditional Information\n\n\n\nPlease see below for additional information regarding the program.
